NASCAR Sprint Cup Series 2015 News: Roush Fenway Racing Stumbles

Roush Fenway Racing is coming of a 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup series campaign that can only be described as disappointing. While Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle did qualify for the Chase for the Cup, neither driver advanced past the Eliminator round. In the off season Edwards departed the team for Joe Gibbs Racing making 2015 something of a transitional season for the famed operation run by Jack Roush. In 2015 the team will operate 3 full time Sprint Cup series teams:

#6 Trevor Bayne- Bayne, the 2011 Daytona 500 champion, will take over the famous #6 car for RFR. For the past few seasons he has been running a limited Sprint Cup schedule for the Wood Brothers #21 car and competing full time for RFR's Xfinity series team. He has one career win on the top circuit and will be paired with crew chief Bob Osborne. Osborn was the long time crew chief for Edwards while he was at RFR but stepped down during the 2012 season due to medical reasons. Advocare moves up to the Sprint Cup series with Bayne who sponsored him in the Xfinity (then knows as the Nationwide Series) Series last year.

#16 Greg Biffle- Biffle has drove his entire career for RFR. While he did go winless in 2014 he has 19 career Sprint Cup series wins and has won championships in the Truck and Xfinity series. Biffle retain Matt Puccia as his crew chief and his primary sponsor will be Ortho. Longtime sponsor 3M departs the team and they will move the partial Cheese Its sponsorship to the #16 team.

#17 Ricky Stenhouse Jr.- Stenhouse is a two time Xfinity Series champion but is still looking to make his mark on the NASCAR's elite racing series. His crew chief for both of those championships and for 2014, Mike Kelly, will return to the team as the car chief. Nick Sandler will take over crew chief duties on the #17 car which will carry several different sponsors during the 2015 season. Fastenal will be the anchor sponsor along with Zest and Fifth Third Bank serving as primary sponsors for different races.

In addition to new driver/crew chief lineup RFR has added several key personnel to the team. Long time crew chief Jimmy Fennig takes over the R&D department and longtime driver Mark Martin returns to the team as a driving coach for the RFR development drivers.
