After receiving backlash for calling the New York Knicks a super-team, Derrick Rose is not retracting his bold statement. The 27-year-old point guard recently shared that he continues to support his earlier remark that his new squad is among the elite teams for the forthcoming 2016-17 NBA season.
Not Backing Off
Per Fox Sports' Rob Perez, Rose sparked controversy last month for commenting that the Knicks are a super-team in the NBA just like the Golden State Warriors. The 2011 NBA MVP, who was traded by the Chicago Bulls to the Knicks in June, believed that playing alongside with Carmelo Anthony (small forward), Joakim Noah (center), Courtney Lee (shooting guard) and Kristaps Porzingis (power forward) will make a super-team in the upcoming season.

Rose was criticized for comparing the Knicks with the Warriors that signed Kevin Durant after nine seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Perez said that Rose was too optimistic considering that the Knicks finished with 32-50 and 17-65 records in the past two seasons. The team also missed the playoffs for three consecutive seasons.
Weeks after declaring that the Knicks are a super-team, Rose supported his controversial comments in a recent interview during a promotional trip to Seoul, South Korea for his new sneakers. The veteran point guard said that he has a lot of confidence and he is not taking his comments back.
Rose Still Thinks The Knicks are a Super-Team
Rose said that one must be careful in using the super-team term, especially when in the United States, but he is not changing his mind. He reasoned out that everyone should believe in their selves and should have the confidence that they are playing on a super-team.
Rose stressed that all of them in the Knicks want to prove something. He stated that his team-up with Anthony, Noah, Lee, Porzingis, Brandon Jennings (point guard) and Kevin Seraphin can be very dangerous if they will all play together the right way.
Optimistic or Delusional?
Bleacher Report's Andrew Gould made some comments that Rose's explanation is somehow right because athletes should exude confidence and should be proud about their respective teams. He, however, added that instead of claiming that he got a super-team, Rose should focus on staying healthy and making it to the playoffs.
Moreover, Maxwell Ogden of Daily Knicks opined that the controversy is unnecessary and that confidence is not a bad thing. He explained that the present roster of the Knicks has the offensive potential to be one of the super-teams next season.
Despite his confidence, according to New York Post's Ethan Sears, Rose seemed unaware of his present teammates and their capabilities. For one, NBA star Rose mentioned Seraphin who is no longer a part of the Knicks and remains a free agent as of press time.
