The 2017 M2 Performance Edition recently appeared in BMW's dealership ordering system under the code ZL9 and it has now been confirmed that the sports coupe will be made available to U.S. customers.

The 2017 BMW M2 Performance Edition will be a limited-edition offering with only 150 units. It has a suggested retail price of $61,695.

According to Autoblog, the Performance Edition will be equipped with sportier components like the M Performance coilover suspension for a firmer ride and the M Performance exhaust system with titanium tips.

In terms of design, all 150 examples of the M2 Performance Edition will be in Alpine White. The exterior will also have black-colored accents seen in the kidney grille, side gills and mirror caps. The sports coupe will also have illuminated door sills and LED door projectors with "Performance Edition" graphics.

Customers who purchase the M2 Performance Edition will also get one day's worth of training at a high-performance driving school.

Meanwhile, Motor Authority has noted that the Performance Edition will also forgo some of the features that are offered by the standard M2. Specifically, the sports seats will be manually adjustable and heating and lumbar support have been removed. There is still keyless entry but comfort access is no longer available. The Performance Edition sports coupe has single-zone climate control and a basic Hi-Fi audio system as opposed to the Harman Kardon setup of the M2. The smoker's package has also been removed.

On the other hand, the M2 Performance Edition will still be powered by the same 3.0-liter M TwinPower inline six-cylinder engine that delivers 365 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque. It can be mated to either the six-speed manual transmission or the seven-speed M Double Clutch automatic transmission.

However, the Performance Edition comes with the M Driver's Package so it will be able to attain a top speed of 168 miles per hour (mph). The standard M2 comes with a 155-mph limit.

The 2017 BMW M2 Performance Edition will be officially announced sometime next week.
