2018 Aston Martin DB11 S Release Date, Specs News: High-Performance Variant of Sports Car Spotted

Nearly a year after the Aston Martin DB11 was introduced, a high-performance version of the grand tourer (GT), expected to be the "S" variant, has been spotted for the first time. While the prototype of the upcoming vehicle was still heavily disguised, spy shots indicate that it will be a more powerful and sportier version of the DB11.

The Aston Martin DB11 S appears to have a more aggressive design language with several aerodynamic tweaks in the GT's body. According to Motor1, the front fascia features a larger grille, a more prominent spoiler lip, a redesigned hood and vents in the front fenders. Additionally, the coupe has vents in the front fenders, larger side skirts and a massive diffuser at the rear. It also appears that the sports car will be equipped with an automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Meanwhile, spy shots of the DB 11 S' interiors show Recaro bucket racing seats and a roll cage. However, it's possible that these features are just for the prototype and the final production model of the DB11 S will have more premium and high-quality furnishings.

There's no confirmation yet but it is expected that the new coupe will use a modified version of the powertrain used by the original DB11 — a 5.2-liter V12 engine that delivers 600 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 3.7 seconds and attains a top speed of 200 mph. The engine will most likely be tweaked to produce around 30 more horsepower. Improvements in performance would also make it the most powerful DB model that Aston Martin has produced.

Unfortunately, since this is the first time that the DB11 S has been spotted, there aren't a lot of details yet for the high-performance vehicle. Furthermore, the British luxury sports car manufacturer has yet to release information about the upcoming GT coupe.

Reports speculate that the Aston Martin DB11 S will be released in the second half of 2018. More details including technical specifications will be revealed closer to its official launch.
