2018 Subaru Crosstrek Release Date, Specs News: Crossover With Enhanced Off-Road Capability Unveiled

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek, known as XV in other markets, was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show. With its first redesign since 2012, the all-new crossover gains new equipment, features and technologies that enhance the overall experience of customers.

The 2018 Crosstrek uses Subaru's new Global Platform architecture, which translates to an enhanced body and chassis that is about 70 to 100 percent more rigid and stronger than previous models.

An improved suspension, modified steering gear ratio and the added electronic parking brake also contribute to a more responsive and comfortable vehicle. Additionally, Active Torque Vectoring provides better turning and steering performance.

Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive System is standard on the 2018 Crosstrek. It allows the crossover to drive through both urban areas and more rugged terrains. The new X-MODE also enhances the vehicle's off-road capability.

In terms of aesthetics, the 2018 Crosstrek features a sporty design inspired by Subaru's "Dynamic x Solid" philosophy. The crossover's exterior showcases a wide and low stance, dynamic lines, extended wheel arches and aerodynamic styling. It is also available with new 18-inch alloy wheels as well as two new colors: Cool Grey Khaki and Sunshine Orange.

Meanwhile, inside, the spacious cabin has been refreshed with high-quality materials. Notable features include body-hugging seats, an 8-inch infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and orange accent stitching on the instrument panel.

Under the hood, the 2018 Crosstrek is powered by the newly developed 2.0-liter Direct Injection Boxer engine that delivers 154 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is mated to the seven-speed Lineartronic transmission.

When it comes to safety, Subaru's new crossover comes standard with standard EyeSight driver-assist technology which includes Pre-Collision Braking Control, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist. New features include High Beam Assist, Steering Responsive Headlights and Rear Vehicle Detection with blind spot detection, lane change assistance and reversing assistance.

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with specific configurations for the U.S. market will be unveiled at the New York International Auto Show this April.
