2018 Volkswagen Arteon Release Date, Specs News: Fastback Confirmed for Geneva Motor Show Debut
Volkswagen is expanding its lineup with the introduction of a new grand tourer called the Arteon. The four-door fastback model will make its global debut at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show next month.
According to the German automaker, the 2018 Arteon will sit above the Volkswagen Passat. In terms of size, it will compete in the premium midsize car segment.
The 2018 Volkswagen Arteon is said to have an attractive avant-garde design that sets it apart from other vehicles in the segment. Nevertheless, the upcoming vehicle is still versatile and will be able to meet the different needs of owners. Notably, the Arteon will have a new front fascia where the LED headlights and daytime running lights have been merged with the chrome-plated radiator grille and hood. There is also a bold and prominent shoulder line.
Inside, the Arteon's spacious interiors provide ample space for all passengers. It will be equipped with premium features that are usually reserved for luxury vehicles like Volkswagen's Active Info Display digital instrument display. Furthermore, the fastback car will come with the latest generation of driver-assistance systems.
No technical specifications have been revealed but based on the prototypes driven by AutoCar last year, the Volkswagen Arteon will be powered by a 2.0-liter TSI petrol engine that delivered 188 horsepower and a 2.0-liter petrol engine that produced 268 horsepower.
The first powertrain variant will be for the European market while the latter will be for consumers in the United States. The engine will be mated to a new seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The publication also noted that more models will be added to the range after the Arteon's official launch. Additional variants could be powered by turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines that can produce up to 276 horsepower.
More details for the 2018 Volkswagen Arteon will be revealed during the Geneva Motor Show, scheduled from March 9 to 19. Following its world premiere, the car is scheduled to go on sale in the summer.
