3 contemporary songs that convey the Easter hope of Christ's resurrection
'I Will Rise' — Chris Tomlin
The song "I Will Rise," released by Christian artist Chris Tomlin in 2008, conveys the triumph of Christ overcoming death and absorbing the sins of the world.
Through lyrics such as "darkness breaks to light" and "my faith shall be my eyes," Tomlin reminds fellow believers that there is a meaning behind suffering and trials when Christians choose to follow God. The world is imperfect, but the Lord who sacrificed His son for His beloved children will uplift them and call upon them to act in His name.
Jesus has overcome/ And the grave is overwhelmed/ The victory is won/ He is risen from the dead.
And I will rise when He calls my name/ No more sorrow, no more pain.
I will rise on eagles’ wings/ Before my God fall on my knees/ And rise/ I will rise.
Speaking about the song, Tomlin said the world Christians occupy is "not as it was meant to be. However, due to the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, believers can take comfort in knowing that they will have a life with God one day in a more perfect world.
"There's so much fear, so much suffering, so much sorrow, so much pain, but the beauty that this song points to is that one day Jesus is going to make all things new," Tomlin said. "There will be no more sin, no more sorrow, the chains will be broken, and we will see what it was all meant to be."
