5 Books Every Christian Should Read to Strengthen Their Walk

As a Christian it is important to keep your walk with the Lord solid, and what better way to keep firm than to read books that inspire spiritual reflection, a longing for God, and awe at the beauty of His love.

Below are five books every Christian should read.

1) Mere Christianity - C.S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis is arguably one of the most known and intelligent minds in Christianity in the 20th Century. His books, whether it be The Chronicles of Narnia or The Screwtape Letters, inspire people to think outside the box. Mere Christianity is "Christian 101" as Lewis writes to prove the existence of a God and a loving Savior.

2) Pilgrim's Progress - John Bunyan

The Pilgrim's Progress is widely considered part of classic literature regardless of its Christian nametag. The book talks about the journey of a man named Christian as he faces perils and obstacles in his path to Celestial City. The entire story is an analogy for a Christian's quest to reach Heaven.

3) My Utmost For His Highest - Oswald Chambers

My Utmost For His Highest is a 365 day devotional by Chambers that was published in 1917, but the truths and principles inside still remain true to this day. The title was taken from one of his sermons, "Shut out every consideration and keep yourself before God for this one thing only- My Utmost for His Highest," reports the Newberry Observer.

4) The Divine Comedy - Dante

Dante's Divine Comedy (Divina Commedia) is an epic Italian poem that Dante dreams up. In the story he travels through the different levels and rings of Hell into Purgatory and eventually Heaven. The work is best known for the first part, "Inferno," where he gives an incredible vision of the suffering and torment in Hell. This masterpiece was written in the early 1300s.

5) The Bible

Last but not least is of course the Bible. It is the oldest book on this list, the most sold worldwide, the most stolen book ever, and the first piece of literature to ever be put onto the printing press. This is unequivocally the greatest work ever written.
