5 things to know about the Jeffrey Epstein arrest, sex trafficking charges

President denies knowledge of crimes as old quote resurfaces

Amid the swirl of speculation about who all may be implicated in Epstein's crimes, photos of President Trump next to Epstein have resurfaced as has an old quote of the president calling him a "terrific guy."

In 2002, Trump was quoted as saying in New York magazine that Epstein was "a lot of fun to be with.”

“It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”

Yet the White House is presently distancing itself from the Epstein situation.

Adviser to the president Kellyanne Conway said that Trump has not communicated with Epstein in a long time.

“The president told me this morning he hasn’t talked to Epstein, he doesn’t think he’s talked to him or seen him in 10 or 15 years,” Conway told reporters at the White House Tuesday.

“Like everyone else,” she added, Trump considers the allegations against Epstein as “completely unconscionable and obviously criminal. Disgusting.”

Alan Garten, a Trump Organization attorney, told Politico in 2017 that the president “had no relationship with Mr. Epstein and had no knowledge whatsoever of his conduct.”

Trump reportedly banned Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago estate “because Epstein sexually assaulted an underage girl at the club,” court documents say, but the claim has not been confirmed by Trump or Mar-a-Lago.
