Abigail Hernandez Kidnapper Arrested Twice While She Was Held Captive
Abigail Hernandez was reportedly held prisoner by a 34-year-old man who was arrested twice during the time he held her captive. Hernandez faced down her kidnapper in court yesterday as he was arraigned on a charge of kidnapping "with a purpose to commit an offense against her."
Nathaniel Kibby was charged with the crime but has a criminal history that was revealed in court yesterday. His record includes six criminal trespassing charges; two counts of receiving stolen property; providing false information to purchase a firearm and theft, all of which were misdemeanors and took place when he was 17 years old. However, he also had two run-ins with police while Hernandez was being held captive.
Hernandez disappeared on October 9, 2013, and Kibby was arrested and charged with marijuana possession on October 22. He appeared in court on December 3, entered a guilty plea and paid $434 to cover the fine and fees associated with the charge. Then, on March 3 of this year, he was charged with simple assault and criminal trespass.

Kibby reportedly shoved Tammy Shackford to the ground after getting into an automobile accident with her husband, Eric Ray. Kibby's lawyer was able to negotiate a plea deal, which cost him $1,000 and the agreement not to have any contact with either Ray or Shackford. The case was settled just last week, three days after Hernandez suddenly showed up at her mother's home in New Hampshire.
Kibby appeared in court to face arraignment – he did not enter a plea but was ordered held on $1 million bond. Hernandez sat in the courtroom with her mother as Kibby stood before the judge. She is reportedly recovering at home but still traumatized and unable to eat solid foods. Hernandez, now 15, has not spoken out about her experience but police are conducting a thorough investigation in order to learn more about what occurred during those nine months of captivity.
