'Alien: Covenant' Sequel: Next Installment Titled 'Awakening'
Even though the anticipated sci-fi thriller film "Alien: Covenant" is still bound for a U.S. theater release on May 19, director Ridley Scott did not try to hide whatever future plans he has in store for the franchise.
"There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] Alien," Scott explains in an interview with Fandango, sharing that he is planning to shoot the next installment pretty soon.
"You've got to assume to a certain extent success [for Alien: Covenant] and from that you'd better be ready," Scott said in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, adding that since he'd like to avoid having a two-year gap, he'd be ready to do the next movie by next year.
The director also reveals that the next installment after 2012's "Prometheus" and the upcoming "Alien: Covenant" movie will be titled "Alien: Awakening."
Scott does not want to stop there, as he says that if both "Covenant" and "Awakening" are successful, he is planning to do three more installments.
In the same Fandango interview, the director clarifies that based on the timeline of the prequel films, the three movies actually occur in this order: "Prometheus," "Awakening" and "Covenant."
Meanwhile, Scott also reveals that "Prometheus" star, Noomi Rapace, will appear in the upcoming "Covenant" film, but "not fully." The director adds that her character is integral to David's (Michael Fassbender) development.
He also explained that "Covenant" will begin to "answer the who and why," and that the film will be "gorier, and smarter."
The director previously revealed through a Digital Spy interview that the "Alien" prequel films are inspired by his personal beliefs of a higher being.
Aside from Fassbender, "Alien: Covenant" also stars James Franco ("Spring Break'), Katherine Waterston ("Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them"), and Danny McBride ("Eastbound and Down") among others.
