Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 Review: Specs, Features Comparison
When it comes to gadgets, you generally get what you pay for. For instance, a tablet that costs $99 will be functional, but the display won't have the same resolution as other premium tablets, and most likely it won't be as fast or as powerful either.
Here, we pit two premium tablets against each other—The Samsung Galaxy Pro 8.4, a device with one of the most pixel-dense displays in the market, and the Amazon Fire HDX 8.9, a tablet that has Dolby's audio enhancing technology and extensive parental controls.
Design:
The Amazon Fire HDX takes its design cues from the 2013 version and measures 9.1 x 6.2 x 0.31 inches and weighs 0.82 pounds. It's one of the slimmest and lightest tablets in the market.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 sports a faux-leather back with stitching detail and measures 8.62 x 5.05 x 0.28 inches and weighs 0.73 pounds.
Features:
The Fire HDX 8.9 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor with 2GB of RAM. It comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models with no expandable storage option.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset backed by 2GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB storage with a microSD card slot for expansion.
Both devices have a resolution of 2560 x 1600, but the Samsung tablet is more pixel dense with 359 pixels per inch compared to the Amazon device's 339ppi. Because of the superb screen resolution, both tablets are great for watching movies. Both sport speakers that emit loud and rich sound. Both devices also have 8MP rear-facing cameras.
The Amazon tablet runs on Amazon Android Sangria 4.0, while the Samsung device runs on Android 4.4.

The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 costs $379, while the Samsung Galaxy Pro Tab 8.4 costs $400.
