Apple iPhone 5C vs Nokia Lumia 830 Review: Specs, Features and Price Comparison
A touch of color makes anything look better, and the same is true for gadgets. People who are bored with the standard metal grey, black, or white smartphones may want to consider a more colorful alternative, and both Apple and Nokia has just the thing for those looking for a change.
Apple has the iPhone 5c. When the iPhone 5 was released, those who wanted the Apple experience opted for the more affordable 5c and aside from the price, the fact that the handset was available in a slew of candy colors attracted a lot of younger customers. Two years after its initial release, the iPhone 5c is still available from Apple, but only in the 8GB capacity.
Meanwhile, the Nokia Lumia 830 is the Finnish company's last hurrah before the company was taken over by Microsoft, and it is the last handset released bearing the Nokia name.
Here, we compare the two devices.
Design:
The Lumia 830 takes a lot of its design cues from its predecessors. The plastic back of the phone has a matte finish and slightly rounded edges. It measures 5.49 x 2.78 x 0.33 inches and weighs 5.29 ounces. The device is available in green, black, orange, and white.
The iPhone 5c can hardly be called a budget phone, as it is essentially an iPhone 5 in a colorful plastic shell. The phone has curved edges and measures 4.90 x 2.33 x 0.35 inches and weighs 4.65 ounces and is available in white, pink, yellow, blue, and green.
Features:
The Lumia 830 has a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 and pixel density of 226ppi. Though the resolution is lower than most flagship phones, the screen is bright and shows accurate colors.
The iPhone 5c has a smaller Retina display at 4 inches with a resolution of 1136 x 640. Though it remains as bright as the 5S and images are stunningly crisp and vivid, it would be nice if Apple added an extra inch to the display.
The Nokia phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip and runs on Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim UI on top. The Apple device has the Apple A6 chip and runs on iOS 7.
The 2014 iPhone 5c only has 8GB of internal storage, and though the 2012 model comes with 16GB memory, it can be difficult to track down an older model. It's too bad that the phone doesn't have storage expansion capabilities, so one has to be very selective on what apps and files to store in the phone. The Nokia phone has 16GB internal storage and can be expanded with a microSD card.
Price:
Both the iPhone 5c and the Nokia Lumia 830 costs $450 off contract.
