Asus ZenFone Specs, Release Date: New ZenFones to Boast Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC

The Asus ZenFone 2 smartphones are arguably the most popular Android-powered handsets today due to their sheer quality and affordable price tags.

The flagship, model number ZE511ML, boasts a 5.5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 4GB of RAM, and an Intel Atom chipset that supports 64-bit applications.

Based on previous reports, the device only costs a little over $400, which definitely among the best prices in the market for the same list of specs.

Now, it looks like Asus is heading towards Apple's direction with the ZenFone flagship lineup.

According to a report by Phone Arena, website Yugatech managed to interview Asus CEO Jerry Shen about his company's future plans.

In the video interview, the company executive revealed that the upcoming Asus ZenFones will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, and not an Intel Atom SoC just like their predecessors.

Moreover, Shen also said that the Asus will follow the naming scheme of Apple for its iPhones. That means the next-generation Asus ZenFone flagships would be the ZenFone 3.

Aside from announcing new flagships every year, Asus will reportedly announce different midrange variations in between to keep Asus and Android fans interested.

Earlier this year, the manufacturer unleashed its ZenFone 2 handsets that are already available in China, Taiwan, and some Southeast Asian countries.

But is the decision to go from Intel Atom to Qualcomm's Snapdragon chip a good idea?
