Atlanta Braves Roster Rumors: Freddie Freeman Claims Wrist Is Completely Healed

Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman had a rough season after spending five weeks on the disabled list, no thanks to an injured wrist that bothered him for the rest of the year. But before the start of the new season, he claims the same wrist has now been completely healed due to an injection he received last December.

That's good news for the Braves, which immediately gave him the go-signal to take swings this week. The back-to-back practice swings were his first for this offseason. And Freeman himself is elated with the progress. "Everything felt good, so I am on the right path to being 100 percent ready to go, full bore, for the first day of spring training," he said.

Last season was just too unfortunate for the 26-year-old American-Canadian, who first injured his wrist in what the team called as a contusion, before spending another two weeks on the disabled list, this time due to a right oblique injury.

Come next season, the Braves just can't afford to have another able body go down with an injury. Everyone in the league knows they're in a rebuilding process and losing reliable hitters means losing games. For one, Freeman was one of the brightest spots during the Braves' NL East championship run in 2013, where he hit .319, a career-best. He also hit 23 homeruns and 109 RBIs that season.

But after dealing away most of the players in the rotation and injuries, Atlanta eventually ended its glory days last season, finishing fourth in the East. Nonetheless, the team's future is bright, even though they let go of their biggest stars in Andrelton Simmons, Shelby Miller, and Justin Upton. They have some youth to build on and money to spend later on. On offense, the team is expected to use newly acquired center fielder Ender Inciarte, shortstop Erick Aybar, and Freeman to become the first three hitters. As for the pitching rotation, everyone's literally a prospect with Tyrell Jenkins, Aaron Blair, and Sean Newcomb.
