Audi Q8 Sport Concept Release Date, Specs News: SUV Previews Innovative Hybrid Setup

At Geneva, Audi introduced the Q8 Sport Concept that previews the German automobile manufacturer's vision for the future of its full-size luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) range. Equipped with premium styling and a hybrid powertrain, the concept car is dynamic and highly efficient.

The Q8 Sport Concept is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged fuel stratified injection (TFSI) V6 engine with an electric-powered compressor and mild hybrid technology.

"The drive system of the Audi Q8 sport concept is a major step towards optimizing efficiency and sustainability in large-volume series production. The combination of mild hybrid technology and a TFSI engine sets a new benchmark for the synthesis of electromobility and combustion engines. In the future, this combination will be used in many Audi models," said Rupert Stadler, chairman of the Board of Management at Audi.

The V6 engine delivers 450 horsepower and 390.9 pound-feet of torque but energy recuperated by the electric motor increases performance to 476 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. This allows the Q8 Sport Concept to go from 0 to 62 miles per hour (mph) in 4.7 seconds and attain a top speed of 170.9 mph.

Furthermore, there is a 0.9-kWh lithium-ion battery which allows the Q8 Sport Concept to move slowly during stop-start traffic or maneuver and park without the use of the combustion engine. Braking also allows the starter generator to recharge the battery for continued use of the electric motor.

Overall, the Q8 Sport Concept's powertrain delivers performance akin to an eight-cylinder engine but with greatly reduced fuel consumption. The car's 22.5-gallon fuel tank is able to provide a driving range of 745.6 miles, making it suitable for long road trips.

Other notable features and components include an all-wheel-drive system, the adaptive air suspension sport system, ceramic brake discs, high ground clearance and large five-Y-spoke wheels.

In terms of design, the Q8 Sport Concept is dynamic and luxurious. It has an imposing front end with Audi's signature Singleframe grille, aluminum accents and flat, wedge-shaped headlights. The SUV also has a sleek silhouette with tight lines and athletic surfaces. Despite a sloping roofline, the Q8 Sport Concept still provides ample space for the rear-seat passengers.

Meanwhile, inside the cabin, the Q8 Sport Concept comes with a cool and sporty ambience. The SUV is equipped with high-gloss surfaces and uses refined materials. Available technologies include the Audi virtual cockpit, head-up display with augmented reality technology and MMI infotainment system.
