'Batgirl' Movie Rumors: 'Dredd' Actress Olivia Thirlby to Play the Titular Role

After it was reported earlier that "13 Reasons Why" actress Katherine Langford was being considered to play the role of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the upcoming "Batgirl" movie by Joss Whedon, the latest in the rumor mill claims that Olivia Thirlby is now being eyed to headline the anticipated Warner Bros. DC movie.

Since it was announced in March that Whedon will write the script and direct "Batgirl," there have been numerous names that surfaced online as to who could possibly breathe life to the titular character.

Among the many names attached to the project, it was Langford's name that became the loudest. While it remains unclear if Langford auditioned for the role or has been invited to, the latest rumors now claim that Whedon is eyeing Thirlby for the role.

Many fans recognize Thirlby for her role in the 2012 movie "Dredd," where she played the role of Judge Anderson. As she proved in the said movie that she can take on a badass role effectively, some opine that she can just be perfect for "Batgirl," too.

However, some can't help but be skeptical whether Thirlby is really being eyed for the role. For one thing, the actress is already 31-years-old, a little older than what people's idea of Batgirl is. However, apart from the fact that the actress still looks youthful despite her age, it is also suspected that Whedon's take on the character may be based on Gail Simone's work on the character that features her a little older than what most people are familiar with.

While the rumors about Thirlby possibly playing Batgirl is nothing short of exciting, nothing is certain for now as everything is just a rumor. However, as it was reported in July that Whedon would start working on the movie next year, Warner Bros is expected to make an announcement soon on who the lucky actress will be playing the role.
