'Being Mary Jane' to Conclude Its Run With 2-Hour Long Finale

"Being Mary Jane" is ending with a special treat for fans next year.

The BET drama is concluding its run with a special two-hour long finale, according to reports. Further details about the upcoming long episode have yet to be revealed, since the series had just wrapped up its latest season in September.

A series finale movie is a fitting bookend to the Gabrielle Union-led program, which also kicked off with a highly rated TV movie. The show garnered 4 million viewers when it premiered in July 2013, followed by the rest of the episodes in January 2014.

"We are grateful to the cast and creators of 'Being Mary Jane,' who have worked tirelessly to bring this world to vivid life over the past four seasons," Connie Orlando, EVP and head of Programming for BET Networks, said in a press statement. "We also thank the many loyal viewers whose hearts and minds were captured every week, and kept Mary Jane trending worldwide. We look forward to closing out Mary Jane's journey with a series finale that is sure to blow fans away!"

The decision to end "Being Mary Jane" comes as BET continues to expand its scripted program lineup. The network recently ordered sophomore installments from VH1 scripted shows such as "Hit the Floor" and "The Breaks." The renewal comes as part of a bigger mandate from Viacom to prioritize on six of the company's core brands: Comedy Central, MTV, Nick Jr., Nickelodeon, Paramount Network and BET.

"Being Mary Jane" has already aired on the network for four seasons, with the latest installment wrapping up last month. The series explores the story of a successful female journalist named Mary Jane Paul (Union) and her career and private life. The fourth season was executive produced by Will Packer and Erica Shelton Kodish.
