'Better Call Saul' Season 2 News, Spoilers: Showrunners, Bob Odenkirk Hint At What's Coming In Second Season
When viewers last saw Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk), the small-time attorney was letting Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) know that his days of playing by the rules are over.
When the second season of AMC's "Better Call Saul" debuts, the embittered McGill, who spent the first season working hard for his underdog clients and trying to keep his law practice afloat, will be ever closer to transforming into the faux-Jewish Saul Goodman, Walter White's (Bryan Cranston) attorney in the cult favorite "Breaking Bad."
"Better Call Saul" showrunners Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan talked to Variety about Jimmy's slow transformation into his Saul persona at the show's Season 2 premiere at the Arclight Cinema in Culver City, Tuesday, Feb. 2. According to Gilligan, in the early stages of the show, they thought that Jimmy would become Saul by the middle of the first season or at least by the end of it. But, he said, Jimmy turned out to be a guy they liked more than Saul Goodman.

"He's a guy we'd like to have a beer with, and we came to the realization that when he becomes Saul Goodman, it's going to be a bit of a tragedy," the "Better Call Saul" boss revealed.
According to Odenkirk, who was also at the premiere, Jimmy's transformation will be a "slow journey" and then a "big drop off." The actor shared what he thinks will bring out the Saul persona, saying, "My gut tells me he fights like hell to not be Saul, and then he just gives up for some reason that's probably pretty potent and painful."
Meanwhile, Michael Mando, who plays Nacho Varga in the series, promised that fans will be very happy with the show's second run. "When we found out who we were working with and who we saw, our jaws just dropped," he revealed.
The second season of "Better Call Saul" premieres Monday, Feb. 15, on AMC.
