Bible Verses to Help Forgive
Forgiving is a central teaching of Christianity. In fact, it is the bedrock of the doctrine of salvation. Mankind is lost and hopeless, and the only way for us to be saved is through the forgiveness of sins. Forgiveness made us worthy in the eyes of God so we are duty-bound to forgive as well.
It is not enough to say the sinner's prayer to become a Christian. The Bible teaches that we must also learn to forgive. If this were not a prerequisite for salvation, what will that make us? We wouldn't be in the position to talk about love and peace if our hearts are filled with contempt and hate.
To those who are having difficulty dealing with forgiving others, do reflect on the following verses.
1. "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (Colossians 3:13)
2. "So watch yourselves. If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying 'I repent,' you must forgive them. (Luke 17:3-4)
3. "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." (Matthew 6:14-15)
4. "And when you stand praying, if your hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." (Mark 11:25)
5. "Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." (Ephesians 4:31-32)
6. "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." (Matthew 6:14-15)
