'Big Bang Theory' Season 8 Spoilers: Major Change Ahead for Penny
"The Big Bang Theory" has plenty of changes in store for the upcoming season, and one major change will affect a key player. The hit CBS series returns for an eighth season this fall. Read on for more details.
"Penny (Kaley Cuoco) has an interesting arc this year where she puts acting down," writer Chuck Lorre told reporters. "She's going to start making some money, which will unbalance their relationship as the power shifts. She's going to find some confidence and self-esteem, which acting does not provide in great heaping doses."
According to Lorre, Penny will give up acting in order to become a pharmaceutical representative. That will bring in much, much more money than her attempts at acting and cause a feeling of unbalance between her and fiancé Leonard, who has always been the breadwinner and caretaker.
What's interesting about this storyline is that Cuoco is one of the last holdouts for signing her contract with the series. She is due for a pay raise and has so far not settled on anything or signed her contract, but Lorre assured critics that something will be ironed out and Cuoco will be back in her famous role.
"This will work itself out," Lorre said. "I think it's great; I want them all to be crazy wealthy because nobody deserves it more than this cast. It'll work out."
"The Big Bang Theory" has become one of CBS' mainstays for primetime. It helped launch the career of Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Jim Parsons. Johnny Galecki, who previously starred on "Roseanne," has been one of the lead characters on the series and his character finally got together with the love of his life, played by Cuoco. The two characters are engaged, but it remains to be seen how Penny's new job will affect their relationship.
"The Big Bang Theory" returns to CBS on Monday, September 22 and then move to Thursdays on October 30.
