Boxing News 2016: Bernard Hopkins Looking At One More Fight; De Mori Sent To Hospital After Being KO'd By Haye

Boxing veteran and future legend Bernard Hopkins is looking to have one more fight as he turns 51 years old this year.

"The Alien," who celebrated his birthday on January 15th, spoke to Steve Kim of Boxingscene about his future plans for 2016.

"One fight, one historic fight, one meaningful fight this year. Yeah, absolutely at 51 and I can add – 51 years young – but 51 is 51."

Hopkins adds that while he says he feels good and has been actively keeping himself in shape through exercise, it is about time for him to take a step back and reevaluate his life. He also reiterated that 2016 would be his final year in active competition, describing it has "the final chapter."

"I got the best of both worlds now and hopefully one day more time will be in back of me," Hopkins said. "But right now I'm in the middle."

Hopkins, who began his prizefighting career in 1988, currently holds a professional boxing record of 55-7-2 and two no contests, with 32 wins by knockout.

He last saw action in November 2014, where he lost to Russian Sergey Kovalev via unanimous decision.

Meanwhile, Australian heavyweight Mark de Mori was immediately sent to the hospital after being brutally knocked out in the first round by former world heavyweight and cruiserweight champion David Haye. The two men faced each other on Saturday at the O2 Arena in London, England.

The said bout was Haye's comeback fight since 2012, when he won via a fifth round TKO against British boxer Dereck Chisora. He was slated to face current heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in 2013 but was sidelined due to an injury and was advised by doctors to retire.

In a report by Ian McCullough for Boxingscene, de Mori was immediately rushed to the hospital after being floored by a single right hand to the cheekbone.

The report adds that it took de Mori a total of five minutes before he was able to get back on his feet after being counted out.
