Bratt Garrett Reveals Why an 'Everybody Loves Raymond' Reboot Is Unlikely to Happen
Over a decade has passed since "Everybody Loves Raymond" ended its run, but it looks like the hit comedy series will no longer be revived.
Many classic sitcoms have been returning to TV screens these past few months, including "Will & Grace" and "Roseanne." Fans are now wondering which other shows will get the revival treatment, but it appears "Everybody Loves Raymond" will not be part of the list.
Speaking with TV Guide, former cast member Brad Garrett said bringing the series back will be impossible without co-star Peter Boyle, who passed away in 2006. "The bottom line is, so much of that show were the parents. There's just no way that anyone — the writers or Ray or anyone or myself — could really see doing the show without them," the actor explained.
The CBS series followed successful sports writer Ray (Ray Romano) and his family. Doris Roberts starred as Ray's mom Marie, while Boyle played Ray's father Frank. Patricia Heaton took on the role of Ray's practical wife Debra and Garrett as Ray's older brother Robert. The show spanned nine seasons and bagged 15 Emmy awards before wrapping up in 2005.
Cinemablend points out that aside from Boyle, Roberts also died in 2016. The young cast member Sawyer Sweeten is no longer alive as well after he committed suicide in 2005. However, even if those stars are still living, there are no guarantees that the program would return.
Garrett's statement comes two weeks after the Russian version of "Everybody Loves Raymond" was registered as the world's longest-running adaptation of a TV series by Guinness World Records. CTC, the Russian network that airs the show, announced the news last Oct. 11. The said program debuted in November 2009 under the Russian title "Voroniny" ("The Voronins"). It has since run for 20 seasons with 455 episodes in total.
