Buried Knife Found In O.J. Simpson's Estate Carries No DNA, Sources Claim

The knife that was found buried in incarcerated former American football player O.J. Simpson's estate has reportedly been found to carry no DNA fragments.

The news comes from TMZ, which claims that detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department have come to a dead end in their investigation into the knife. Its discovery marked the first break in the Nicole Brown murder case since Simpson was acquitted of all criminal charges in the 1995 case.

A construction worker found the knife buried in the backyard of Simpson's Rockingham estate and handed it to a retired LAPD police officer who was reportedly doing traffic control in the area at the time. The officer then took the buck knife with a 5" blade home, placed it in his tool box, and forgot about it for the next dozen or so years. The knife was turned over to the LAPD earlier this month.

According to TMZ, tests conducted on the knife found no DNA samples. The outlet also states that according to their sources, the microbes in the soil in which the knife was found would have degraded any DNA on the weapon to the point that getting any DNA matches became impossible. According to TMZ, no hair or other tissue samples that could produce a lead were found on the knife. TMZ further claims that the LAPD has capped its investigation on the matter.

Meanwhile, retired correctional officer Jeffrey Felix, the author of "Guarding the Juice: How O.J. Simpson Became My Prison BFF," recently spoke to ABC News about Simpson's reaction to the recent revelation about the knife found in his former California estate.

"O.J. thinks the knife thing is a complete joke and he wants to know why it was held on to for 18 years before it was turned in," Felix said. "He jokingly says, 'If the knife is rusted, I can't be busted.'"

TMZ later added an update to its report saying that the LAPD has released a statement that no such results as the website claimed have been received from its crime lab. Nevertheless, the entertainment news outlet stands by its story and sources.

The news about the knife in Simpson's former property has coincided with the airing of FX's critically acclaimed "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson," which airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m.
