'Bury Me, My Love' Tells the Reality of Syrian Refugees
"Bury Me, My Love" may just be a simple mobile game, but it tackles one of the biggest issues the world is facing right now, the Syrian Refugee Crisis.
Games time and time again have proven they can be used to spread awareness regarding the world's problems. Now, the mobile dialogue-driven game "Bury Me, My Love" is doing just that as it is set in the violent Syrian conflict and the people who are affected by it. In the game, players get to play as Majid, a Syrian citizen who decides to stay in the country to care for the elderly while his wife, Nour, has decided to flee the war-torn country.
In "Bury Me, My Love," instant messaging plays a central gameplay role. The game basically revolves around Majid as he converses with his wife, Nour, through an IM app similar to WhatsApp. Players would need to speak to Nour and guide her on her journey to Europe. How one converses with the character will ultimately affect the game's ending. Oftentimes, Nour would hide the reality of her suffering from her husband, and it is the player's job to keep her emotional state as stable as possible and encourage her to go further.
The game gets its title from an Arabic phrase which means "take care," the kind where one hopes that the other outlives him/her.
The game has given a realistic portrayal of what families in Syria are like nowadays. About 10 million Syrians have become displaced due to the ongoing threat of terrorism as well as the country's own civil war. As of now, about 10 million Syrians have been displaced by the war and countless of families broken and torn apart.
Some of the refugees whose family chose to stay in the country only have services such as What'sApp in order to stay in contact with their family.
