Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin Fight Preview 2017

World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin will be defending his title against challenger Saul "Canelo" Alvarez this Saturday, Sept. 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Following the highly-publicized fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor last month, boxing fans will once again enjoy another super fight between the industry's current most important fighters.

Both boxers are aggressive and offensive fighters. Golovkin has scored 23 consecutive knockouts that even men who are 30 pounds heavier are afraid to spar with him. Canelo, although a more defensive player, can also pack a powerful punch and could also knock his component out.

With two of the world's top figures in the middleweight division set to fight for the right to be crowned the king of 160 pounders, no one can predict the outcome of this spectacle.

"For 2017, this is unusual, for the most part," boxing writer Patrick Connor stated. "The normal sequence that fighters generally went through to get bigger fights made doesn't happen anymore. Fighter rises through the ranks, defeats progressively better opposition, gets a bigger shot and goes from there. That formula doesn't even really exist anymore."

Connor said that one would have to go decades back to see another middleweight fight of this caliber. He referred to the one between Marvin Harger and Thomas Hearns in 1985, which was before Canelo was even born.

This fight will be a game-changer for the winner. Whoever wins this fight should see a rapid increase in their earning potential.

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya also expressed the same thoughts. In a conference call with the press, he said that this is probably the biggest fight in the middleweight division in all of boxing history. In terms of the fight's viewers, De La Hoya said this should one of the biggest in the last 30 years.

Catch the square off between Canelo and Golovkin this Saturday.
