'Captain America: Civil War' News: Russo Brothers Talk 'Focus' and Pressure
As fans anticipate the release of "Captain America: Civil War," the directors, who happen to be brothers, are ready to lay out the details on how they were able to focus on one of this year's most anticipated films.
In a recent chat with Forbes, Anthony and Joseph Russo discussed the perks of working with a massively-funded film that can be labeled both as a standalone piece and as part of the hit Marvel franchise "Captain America."
As fans already know, such movies are highly funded and the expectation in terms of returns is much bigger than the amount dished out for production. For the famous brothers, there is something more important than being able to beat the financial expectations.
"As storytellers and directors, the best thing we can do is tell a story that people want to watch and pay to watch. We just keep focused on that side of the equation and our roles in the process," Anthony said.
When it comes to making sure that fans are satisfied with the airtime that their favorite characters get, the Russo brothers have a good plan laid out. In "Civil War," Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evans' Captain America have turned their backs on each other due to a government creed that they apparently don't see eye-to-eye.
Fans have been questioning whether Iron Man or the Cap will have more time onscreen than the other, especially since the two mega heroes are on warring sides. There have been huge debates among fans as to which superhero should have more air time than the other and for the directors, division of airtime is important to make sure fans are pleased.
"We try to walk through the story from every character's point of view no matter how large or small their role," Anthony explained.
It turns out the brothers aren't thinking too much of the budget or their pay when writing about a movie they're working for. Joseph explained that the narrative is the priority. Once the written story is prepared, that's when money talk begins.
"Captain America: Civil War" hits big screens on May 6, 2016.
