'Cars 3' Release Date, Cast Rumors: New Teaser Unveiled During Daytona 500

During the Daytona 500 held Sunday, Feb. 26, on Daytona Beach, Florida, Disney offered an extended teaser trailer look at its upcoming "Cars 3" movie, which is slated for a summer release this year.

The new extended trailer offered a first look at the new cars and characters of the popular Pixar franchise, which now features a number of NASCAR celebrities - most of them mirroring characters that are based on their real-life personas.

Among them is 2016 Sunoco Rookie of the Year, Chase Elliott, who will play Chase Racelott in the animated film - a racing rookie with the right skills, smarts and equipped with the best technology which makes him a top contender in the racetrack.

Another is Ryan Blaney, a Wood Brothers Ford driver, who portrays Ryan "Inside" Laney. He "races with talent, speed and precision."

Daniel Suarez, 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series Champion, is also confirmed to play Danny Swervez, an eager-to-learn racer who "pushes himself to the limit."

NASCAR Hall of Famer and now NASCAR on FOX analyst Darrell Waltrip also reprises his role as the voice behind the character, Darrell Cartrip, the known Piston Cup announcer during the first two installments of the "Cars" franchise.

Reporter and host of F1's NASCAR Race Hub, Shannon Spake will also lend her voice as a racetrack reporter who is on a quest to ask the toughest questions.

Other confirmed voice actors include Bubba Wallace, who will play the young and determined race car Bubba Wheelhouse, Humpy Wheeler as Tex Dinoco, and Jeff Gordon as Jeff Gorvette.

Aside from that, previously confirmed characters include Jackson Storm and Cruz Ramirez played by voice actors Armie Hammer and Cristela Alonzo, respectively.

Jackson Storm is the confirmed flashy, self-centered villain who is born with a silver spoon, while Cruz Ramirez is a new race car trainer and a long-time Lightning McQueen Fan.

In addition, Owen Wilson will reprise his role as the voice actor for lead character Lightning McQueen, while Richard Petty also comes back as "The King" Weathers.

"Cars 3" hits U.S. theaters on June 16.
