Chicago Cubs MLB Trade Rumors: Team Still Pursuing Orioles' Manny Machado

Looks like the White Sox aren't the only team in Chicago that think they have an actual shot at acquiring Baltimore Orioles' third baseman/shortstop Manny Machado.

According to CBS Chicago's Bruce Levine, the Cubs are still in the mix for the three-time All-Star even though they don't necessarily have the assets the Orioles want in return.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal has suggested shipping All-Star second baseman/shortstop Addison Russell, veteran pitcher Mike Montgomery and a prospect for Machado in a recent column, but a lot of observers don't think that's a very good idea.

"Russell-for-Machado straight up is enough to give me pause, but I can at least wrap my head around why that might make sense for the Cubs," Tony Andracki said in his column for NBC Sports Chicago. "Adding Montgomery and a prospect, however, pushes the trade over the edge into "no way" territory if all the Cubs are getting back is Machado," he continued.

It should be noted that Machado only has a year remaining on his current contract, while Russell is under team control for the next four years.

This seems like a lopsided deal to many, but FanRag Sports' Jonathan Bernhardt thinks the Cubs can convince him to sign an extension if they continue winning.

"The Cubs are in a contention cycle and trying to win a second World Series in three years. Getting a ring with the team on the north side might be a powerful inducement to come back for eight years or so," Bernhardt said in his report.

Well, the Cubs will have to put together a nice package first if they want to acquire Machado because FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman has reported that the Orioles are thinking of pulling him off the trading block because they didn't like the offers they are getting for the All-Star third baseman/shortstop.
