CM Punk UFC News: MMA Fighter Believes Ex-WWE Superstar Will Be KO'd In First Round During MMA Debut
UFC fighter Mike "The Truth" Jackson believes former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar and forthcoming UFC fighter CM Punk will be knocked out in the first round of his mixed martial arts debut.
Jackson faced Punk's debut opponent Mickey Gall during the undercard of UFC Fight Night 82 two weeks ago in Las Vegas. Unfortunately for him, he was stopped within a mere 45 seconds via submission through a rear naked choke.
Having faced Gall, Jackson made his assessment on the fight between Gall and Punk (Phil Brooks in real life). While the said match-up has yet to be given a date, he already made his pre-fight prediction.
"I think Mickey takes him out in the first round. I think it's a first-round finish for Mickey," Jackson said in an interview with veteran journalist Ariel Helwani during Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "Look, Phil [Brooks], he can train with these guys for as long as possible. The wear and tear he's had on his body from professional wrestling, I just don't see him advancing."
"There are people like BJ Penn who's coming out who received their black belt in three years, things like that," he continued. "I don't see him as being that type of athlete and definitely doesn't have that type of fighter IQ."
Punk, now 37 years old, has been in the professional wrestling circuit since 1999 and made his first WWE Raw appearance in 2008. He left the company in 2014, citing differences with head honcho Vince McMahon.
In December of that year, the UFC announced that Punk would officially be part of their roster. Specifically, it was during the broadcast of UFC 181 when it was announced, rightfully shocking both professional wrestling fans and mixed martial arts aficionados.
He then began to train with renowned coach Duke Roufus, and was slated to make his debut in December of 2015. However, the plans were scrapped after Punk suffered an injury in training.
He is once again in the sidelines due to back injury, subsequently pushing back his much-awaited debut.
