CM Punk Rumors: Former Pro-Wrestler Turned UFC Fighter Rumored To Be Returning To WWE?
Former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar-turned-UFC fighter CM Punk is rumored to be making a return to professional wrestling.
The 37-year-old former WWE champion (whose name is Phil Brooks in real life), left the WWE in 2014 after a rift with the company's head honcho, Vince McMahon. A few months later, the UFC announced the signing of Punk during the pay-per-view broadcast of UFC 181.
It was then met with mixed reactions from fighters. Some were criticizing the UFC for signing a fighter with zero professional mixed martial arts experience. Others welcomed Punk into the UFC and even offered to have him as a training partner.
Eventually, Punk decided to train under the tutelage of renowned coach Duke Roufus at the Roufusport Academy in Milwaukee. He trains with former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and current ONE Championship welterweight champion Ben Askren.
Punk was originally scheduled to make his UFC debut in December 2015 but a shoulder injury derailed those plans. He was then given a new timetable for a return, which is expected to be in the middle of the year, against Mickey Gall, a 2-0 fighter out of New Jersey.
However, these said plans were put on hold once again after Punk suffered a new injury, a herniated disc on his back this time around. For this said injury, no specific timetable has been set for Punk's return. Rumors about Punk's WWE return have been rampant, as of late.
On Sunday, former WWE champion John Cena posted a photo of Punk's Twitter profile photo in his Instagram account, garnering a huge chunk of speculations from fans.
And in a Wednesday report by FOX Sports' Lindsey Foltin, it has been pointed out that the WWE quietly brought back CM Punk's profile page in the company's website. His page was recently taken down after his departure from the WWE.
As of this posting, neither Punk or the UFC have released their statements regarding the matter.
