CNN News Anchor Don Lemon Addresses Trump's Behavior Towards Soldier's Widow in Open Letter
Don Lemon calls out United States President Donald J. Trump to stop his ill behavior towards the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, Myeshia Johnson.
Lemon, an American news anchor and journalist of CNN, shared an open letter dedicated to both President Trump and widow Myeshia Johnson. Lemon addressed the incident where President Trump had upset Myeshia while talking to her about the passing of her husband.
The news anchor said in his letter that friends of the president have informed him that Trump watches their network and that he wants to use this platform to speak to him personally.
"I feel compelled to after this latest controversy with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson. Your tweet this morning essentially called her a liar. Mr. Trump, please stop it. Please stop!" Lemon continued.
"You are putting his widow in the terrible position of having to fight for her dignity when she should be concentrating on taking care of herself, her health, her two children, and the one on the way," said the journalist.
He then told the president to consider what it would be like if her daughters, Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump, were in Myeshia's situation. Lemon added that President Trump should just accept Myeshia's anger, similar to how his predecessors did.
Lemon then demanded that it is time for President Trump to act like the president he should be.
"You're commander in chief, the President of the United States of America, the greatest country on Earth. Act like it," Lemon said, encouraging President Trump to just apologize for his mistakes.
Then, Lemon began his letter for Myeshia and began to apologize on behalf of President Trump for not knowing the right words to say.
"We are all sorry for what you're going through. All grief is different and we cannot imagine how deep and profound yours is," said Lemon. He also praised Sgt. Johnson of being a great American and a hero husband to her.
The controversy began when President Trump was insensitive to Myeshia by telling her that his husband knew what he signed up for, and that he had a hard time remembering her husband's name, she told Good Morning America.
Shortly after, President Trump posted on Twitter denying that he forgot Sgt. Johnson's name and that he had a "very respectful conversation" with Myeshia.
