'Criminal Minds' Season 13 Premiere Spoilers, News: Emily Prentiss to Die? Agent Simmons Joins the BAU

Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) might not survive last season's fatal car crash. Meanwhile, Agent Matt Simmons (Daniel Henny) joins the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) for good.

The official account of "Criminal Minds" shared the trailer for season 13 on Twitter, which might have revealed that Prentiss will not continue on for the rest of the show.

By the end of the 35-second trailer, Prentiss is shown lying on the hospital bed, bruised and unresponsive, with the flat-line beeping sound running in the background. Because Prentiss was seated on the passenger seat where the truck first hit their car, it's possible that she won't be able to survive the crash.

However, Kirsten Vangsness — who plays Penelope Garcia — shared Entertainment Weekly's feature of "Criminal Minds" on Twitter, featuring her character and Agent Simmons arriving at the scene of the crash and discovering that Prentiss is missing.

But executive producer Erica Messer confirmed on the feature that there are no discussions yet about a major character leaving the show.

Meanwhile, Simmons will be a new addition to the BAU, CBS has confirmed.

Simmons will be leaving the International Response Team and join Garcia, Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler), Rossi (Joe Mantegna), JJ (A.J. Cook), Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) and Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) on their mission to catch Mr. Scratch, a.k.a. Peter Lewis (Bodhi Elfman).

The agent first appeared on the show last season when he came to help the team bring Reid out from prison in Mexico.

Reid is determined to find Mr. Scratch and kill him himself after he framed the former for a murder that got Reid locked up in Mexico. This also jeoparded his mother's life.

The season 13 premiere of "Criminal Minds" is titled "Wheels Up." It is slated to premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
