'Dancing with the Stars' season 21 news, cast, spoilers: Nick Carter convinced by boyband rival Joey Fatone

The return of "Dancing with the Stars" (DWTS) season 21 may be more exciting for the 90s kids as a member of one of the biggest boybands of that time is joining the cast. The new recruit is none other than Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, who, funny enough, was convinced by former boyband rival member, Joey Fatone.

Nick Carter shares to US Magazine that he's "excited" for the chance. After apparently being asked for the fifth time, Carter finally said yes due to the encouragement of Fatone. Carter says, "He talks about it all the time and I was really debating if I wanted to do it, and he said, 'It's a great experience, it keeps you in shape and it'll teach you a lot of stuff.' He said, 'You'll get what you put into it.' And I'm a hard worker, so I think it'll be fun."

It is quite known that NSYNC, which Fatone was a member of, was Backstreet Boys' biggest rival in the pop genre in the late 90s to early 2000s. Although the rivalry was mainly heightened by the media, the members have become pals behind the scenes. Fatone joined DWTS in seasons 4 and 15, and had been quite impressive.

Nick isn't the only Carter who has joined the show. His little brother and singer, Aaron Carter, also participated in season 9 where he finished fifth place with partner Karina Smirnoff. Nick says this is also one of the reasons why he really considered the show more. He reveals, "My brother was on it; he did great; and he's a great little dancer and entertainer so I saw it through his eyes throughout that experience. And there's a lot of competitiveness in me and I think there's a little something inside of me that says, 'Okay, I'm going to go there and represent the Carter name and do even better than what he did!'

Many look forward to how Nick will fare as season 21 premieres on Sep. 14, Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
