'Dancing with the Stars' Update: Former Presidential Bet Rick Perry Joins Season 23 Cast

"Dancing with the Stars" will include former presidential candidate Rick Perry on its 23rd season, a report confirms.

Former presidential candidate and Texas governor Rick Perry will join Season 23 of "Dancing with the Stars" (DWTS), an insider reported on Monday.

The former presidential bet will be dancing off with other prominent personalities such as rapper Vanilla Ice, gymnast Laurie Hernandez, singer Jana Kramer, '70s actress Marilu Henner and possibly, Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte.

Prior to Gov. Perry joining DWTS, the show had only one other elected official on its cast. In 2009, fellow Texas governor Tom DeLay participated in DWTS. He had to leave the show for foot stress fractures. Former majority leader deLay had to let go of his post back in 2006 for campaign finance violations.

Aside from Rep. DeLay, Gov. Perry is not the only competitor with GOP connections. Previous seasons have already included actor-model Antonio Sabato, Jr.  and Bristol Palin. Sabato Jr. showed his support to Donald Trump in Cleveland last July. Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol, became part of the show in 2010.

In Season 22, Trump's ex-wife Marla Maples was seen twirling on the DWTS dance floor. She finished in 10th place, just ahead of actor Mischa Barton and behind NFL player Doug Flutie.

Twitter reacts

With Perry finally speaking about his DWTS stint on Twitter, the show's followers and the politician's critics could not keep their opinions to themselves, especially that there's a politics and entertainment crossover going on.

Some twitter users cannot understand their feelings and just let memes do the work.

There are also avid Perry supporters who are giving the politician some push.

Perry and his life after politics

Shortly after Perry quit the presidential race, he backed the presidential dreams of Texas senator Ted Cruz. Perry nominated Cruz as a candidate for the Republican Party. However, Donald Trump got the most number of votes.

While others chose to establish their political careers by joining reality programs on television, Perry did it the other way around. He is set to conquer an entirely different arena with his political career as a jump-off point.

Although rumor has it that DWTS has some big names lined up for its upcoming season, the final and official cast list has yet to be announced.

"Good Morning America" will reveal the full cast of "Dancing with the Stars" on September 12. The show is known for matching celebrities with professional and known dancers for a series of competitions.

Season 23 also premieres on the same day on ABC.
