'Deadpool 2': The Search Continues for Cable
The R-rated movie "Deadpool" has received massive success and attention, thanks to Ryan Reynolds' no-holds-barred portrayal of the foul-mouthed, hilarious antihero. In the upcoming sequel, the team is searching for someone who will play Cable to balance the mood, and it is still ongoing.
So who's taking on the role? For starters, it appears the illustrious Brad Pitt is off the list. While he could play it very well, there are certain circumstances that simply prevent his casting.
In an interview with Comicbook, director David Leitch shared why Pitt isn't available. "We had a great meeting with Brad, he was incredibly interested in the property," he said. "Things didn't work out schedule-wise. He's a fan, and we love him, and I think he would've made an amazing Cable."
With him out of the picture, other personalities come into consideration. One of them is Michael Shannon, who is now reported to be the frontrunner. While he is a good option, Leitch is still creating a list to cover all bases, MTV has learned.
"I'm a huge fan of Michael Shannon, and he's always been on a short list," Leitch points out. "The studio is doing the due diligence to go through the list, and we're going to find the right Cable. If it ends up Michael Shannon, I will be grateful. But there's a lot of great people out there too."
As far as being playful is concerned though, there may even be a possibility that the post-credit scene joke about Kiera Knightley may be taken seriously. There's reason to believe that there could be a slight chance, since Negasonic Teenage Warhead had explosive powers instead of the original psychic skills. This may be another funny change.
The search continues, and it will definitely be something to watch out for. "Deadpool 2" is initially set for release on Jan. 12, 2018.
