Democratic Senator Mark Pryor (Ark.), who is in a tough reelection fight, has released a new campaign ad of him holding a Bible and discussing the esteem to which he gives it.

"I'm not ashamed to say I believe in God and I believe in his word," Pryor tells viewers in the 30 second clip. "The Bible teaches us no one has all the answers. Only God does. And neither political party is always right."

Pryor also shares with the audience that the Bible guides how he makes decisions.

"This is my compass, my North Star. It gives me comfort and guidance to do what is best for Arkansas."

While Pryor ran without any Republican opposition in 2008, this year, current Republican Representative Tom Cotton has announced that he will run against the incumbent.

Pryor's race is one of six Senate races next year for seats that are currently held by Democrats in states that were won by Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney in 2012. Republicans need a net gain of five seats to win the Senate and Pryor's seat is one of the most likely targets.

Pryor is an evangelical Christian. In 2008, he was interviewed about his faith for a documentary by athiest talk show host and comedian Bill Maher called Religulous.

Pryor has served on various important committees including the Appropriations Committee, Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and Select Committee on Ethics.

While Pryor has voted with his party on bills such as the Affordable Care Act and a measure that repealed "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," this year he voted against a bill that would have authorized background checks on all firearm purchases. He has also criticized abortion.

According to a Beliefnet poll, white Evangelicals comprise 44 percent of Arkansas population.
