'Dies Irae' Episode 5 Spoilers: Will Ren Fujii Continue to Play Into His True Enemies' Purposes?
In order to protect his childhood friend from what has been going on, both with the city and with himself, Ren Fujii has decided to keep his distance. But how will his fake relationship with the mysterious Kei Sakurai affect his life now that some significant truths about his power has been revealed on the Japanese action-fantasy anime series, "Dies Irae"?
The previous episode has just revealed their primary purpose for coming to the city and seemingly taking Ren under their wings. As Father Valeria Trifa said during one of their council meetings, war sometimes required that they strengthen their enemies.
While this may seem confusing to viewers who have not read the source visual novel, VIKINGUBERMENSCH offered an explanation via the MyAnimeList forum. According to them, the reason behind the organization's aim to strengthen their own enemy is that in order to activate the Swastikas. They will be needing strong souls to fight in a real battle, as opposed to just murdering lesser souls.
As for why Ren has had to fool his childhood friend, Kasumi Ayase, into believing that he is now in a relationship with Kei, this was apparently to keep the girl from asking any more questions and finding out more than she should. Kasumi has just been revealed to have been behind the serial murders that have been happening around the city. But since she does not at all remember what she's done, Ren would like to keep it that way by essentially cutting down on their interactions.
Additionally, Ren possesses a weapon known as the Relic, which has the ability to turn souls into power. And since the weapon's main purpose is to kill and continue gathering souls, it also gives Ren an almost uncontrollable urge to kill. It is for this reason that he has accepted Kei's offer to help him control his power.
The anime series is about to get even more interesting, especially since the main antagonist, Reinhard Heydrich, has just made an appearance. Will Ren continue working for the Longinus Dreizehn Orden's purposes, or will he eventually choose to fight his own battle?
