'Doctor Strange' News: Benedict Cumberbatch and Buddhism
The man behind the new Marvel character of the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently shared some details about his preparation for the role.
It was previously announced that Benedict Cumberbatch will be bringing an iconic Marvel hero to life. He is expected to play Doctor Strange in an upcoming solo film. With a high expectations for his portrayal, Cumberbatch explained his process in internalizing for the character.
According to Roar Magazine, Cumberbatch uses his experience in Buddhism to help him find his character. He said, "As an actor you are looking for the infinite. If you can hold that, if you can remember that in the chaos, it will anchor you and give you grace and ease."
He explained that he finds meditation interestings because it allows for a heightened awareness of senses. With that, he is able to focus better, which is important in acting. With that, the time he spent teaching monks English helped him prepare for the role of Dr. Strange.
He said, "I became interested the meeting point between Western logic and Eastern mysticism. It was like, okay, I've got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I'm thinking, there's going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there."
With that, fans can expect "Doctor Strange" to bring a lot of new aspects to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was stated that the new character will usher in a new kind of element to the franchise. There are speculations that he will bring another Infinity Stone to the story, which is essental for the upcoming installments for the "Avengers" franchise.
"Doctor Strange" is expected to hit theaters this Nov. 4.
