'Elementary' Season 4 Spoilers: Sherlock Out of Work After Relapse

The "Elementary" TV series returns to CBS on November 5 for its fourth season and it will find Sherlock unemployed and in the brink of being jailed for assault. According to a report in IGN, the show's executive producer and some of its cast members revealed some of the upcoming season's plot details, including Sherlock's situation after the events of season 3.

Speaking at the recently concluded New York Comic Con, executive producer Robert Doherty said that the next season immediately follows the events in season 3, where Sherlock (played by Jonny Lee Miller) was shown to have relapsed in his substance abuse and ended up assaulting his former dealer Oscar, who was played by Michael Weston. At the start of season 4, Sherlock is jobless, having lost his consultancy stint with the NYPD. To top it off, he may also be thrown in jail for what he did to Oscar.

The report, however, cited a trailer of the show's season premiere, indicating that the FBI may be the one offering Sherlock and Dr. Watson something to do at some point during the season.

Among the details revealed about season 4 include the appearance of Sherlock's father, Morland Holmes. Morland, played by John Noble, will be seen coming to New York to "clean up" the mess his son made. His character is actually an international consultant of governments and corporations. His character however, according to Doherty, is one that is not based on any character in Arthur Conan Doyle's novels.

Jonny Lee Miller, who plays Sherlock, also noted that this season will show the father-son relationship, and he has this to say about how the father affects the son: "It's interesting having him be flustered and annoyed."

While Doherty could not confirm if any of the other characters are making their appearance in the coming season, he mentioned that actor Rhys Ifans, who plays Sherlock's brother Mycroft is most likely come back. He said, "That would be fantastic. That's something all of us would love to see and it's something we are aggressively pursuing. So yeah, we shall see. I would love to see the three Holmes men together. In particular it would be great to have Mycroft back because it doesn't just present stories and complications for Sherlock and Morland, of course. Joan shares a complex history with the man as well."
