As detailed by Entertainment Weekly, Fiona is described as a "brilliant and socially awkward software engineer." She is introduced to Sherlock and his partner Joan (Lucy Liu) during a murder investigation. Fiona is also said to be a lot like Sherlock in the sense that she too is "odd" but has her own unique way of going through life.

The site also said that Fiona describes herself as "neuro-atypical," but others may see her differently, something like a high-functioning autistic. Gilpin will first appear in the Jan. 21 episode and will recur her role in at least one more episode.

Meanwhile, while Sherlock will meet romance, Joan will be dealing with her stepfather. In another report by Design & Trend, fans of the series will finally meet Joan's stepfather who is going to be played by "Home Alone" actor John Heard.

TV Guide reported that the two have a complicated relationship just like Sherlock and his father. "A few episodes in the season we're going to meet her stepfather and discover they have a pretty complicated relationship," series creator Rob Doherty said. "It's a theme we will hit pretty hard over the first half of the season," he added.

Aside from John Heard, CBS has also cast Virginia Madsen as a guest star, playing the role of Paige Cowen, a former NYPD detective. She's also bound to bring in some romance to Captain Gregson's (Aidan Quinn) life.

"Elementary" season 4 returns on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
