Emotional Wendy Williams Addresses On-Air Collapse

Wendy Williams became teary-eyed when she talked about her scary on-air collapse.

The daytime talk show host went through a frightening event on Tuesday during a live airing of her self-titled program's Halloween episode. The audience watched in shock as the mother of one fainted and fell to the floor while filming her show.

The next day, an emotional Williams talked about the incident and immediately slammed social media rumors claiming she might have faked her collapse. Instead, the 53-year-old said she was dehydrated and felt overheated in her Green Statue of Liberty costume.

"I was going through what middle-aged women go through," said the former radio personality, referencing hot flashes. "The costume got hot, all of a sudden, right before passing out, I felt like I was in the middle of a campfire."

Choking up, Williams went on to say how scary the entire ordeal was. She also explained why she held the back of her head before falling over, a move which led some viewers to suspect she was having a seizure or a stroke.

"That was because I promised myself two things," she continued. "First of all, this is never going to happen again. Second of all, if it's going to go down, it's got to be as cute as I could make it." Williams also somewhat blamed herself for having a strong work ethic, which pushed her to work more and have less time to rest.

After being checked by the paramedics, Williams was met by a crowd of fans, paparazzi and press as she and her spouse made their way home from the hospital. The actress joked that they managed to lose the paparazzi by living in New Jersey because they eventually stopped tailing her car.

"The Wendy Williams Show" has been on air since July 14, 2008. Williams has never missed a day on the program, and will be celebrating her milestone 1,500th show on Nov. 13.
