Long before smartphones auto-rotated their screens, babies have been capable of sensing motion and orientation. Like clockwork, if a tired parent goes horizontal for any time longer than, say, 5 seconds, they raise the alarm.
This mother polar bear knows exactly what I'm talking about. As soon as she lays in the snow to take a load off, her cubs pounce. They climb all over her, nibble on her ear and stand triumphantly on her back. She takes it in stride because, after all, they're her babies and they look irresistibly cuddly.
