Faith in God's Protection
Read: 1 Samuel 17:32-51
(David confidently said) "The Lord has rescued me from the claws of lions and bears, and he will keep me safe from the hands of this Philistine." (v. 37, cev)
The Ethiopian jungle path was only lit by a weak flashlight. With every step the native drums grew louder. Watching the Mesengos, the mission team became aware that they were probably the first white people to see this ceremony. Suddenly someone noticed them. As word spread, the observers were unsure about what would happen. "We could have been boiled in a pot," Dad told us. Then he added, "But I knew that God would protect us."
Like my dad, David trusted in the Lord's protection. This ordinary shepherd knew God had kept him safe in the past. When he heard Goliath's taunts, he had confidence that God would protect him and help defeat the giant. After convincing the king that the Lord would keep him safe, David chose five stones from the stream and went to defeat Goliath. With the first stone, he hit the giant in the forehead and killed him.
Wow, what faith in God's protection! The knowledge of how God sustained him in the past gave David the confidence to stand up to anything in his path. How has God protected you? Your answers will help you to have confidence to face the future.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your past and future protection.
