'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' casting confirmed as filming starts
Harry Potter fans all over the world certainly got excited over the news that one of JK Rowling's novel set in the HP universe is confirmed to become a movie. Although Warner Bros. has tried hard to keep it under wraps, rumors continue to circulate around the web, and now, it's officially confirmed that filming has started and the cast has been revealed.
According to Business Wire, Warner Bros. announced that official filming began last August 17 at Warner Bros. Studies, Leavesden. The director of the upcoming film is David Yates, who also directed the last four "Harry Potter" films, while JK Rowling herself is screenwriting the movie. Screenrant reports the main plot of the film, with a timeline set 70 years prior to the Harry Potter series and will be all about the young Newt Scamander. Newt is described to be "the wizarding world's pre-eminent magizoologist, who stops in New York following his travels to find and document magical creatures."
Eddie Redmayne is set to play the lead role of Newt Scamander. The Oscar-winning actor had gained much attention for his role as Stephen Hawking in the scientist's critically acclaimed biopic "Theory of Everything." Aside from him, other faces that we can expect to see would be Colin Farrel of "True Detective" as Graves whose character is still currently a mystery, Katherine Waterston of "Inherent Vice" and Alison Sudol of "Transparent" as sisters Tina and Queenie Goldstein, a relative of Ravenclaw student Anthony Goldstein in the Harry Potter series, Dan Folger of "Balls of Fury" as a non-Wizard who befriends Newt during his travels, Ezra Miller of "Trainwreck" as Credence, Samantha Morton of "Minority Report" as Mary Lou, Jenn Murray of "Brooklyn" as Chastity, and newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty.
Although many hope that this will be some sort of prequel to the famous Harry Potter series, Rowling insisted that it will be a spin-off story all on its own, with only the setting in the wizarding world as the main common factor between the two. She insists that this is more of an extension of the world she created to enlighten fans about the history the Harry Potter series has opened to fans during its run.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is set to be the first of a trilogy, with its worldwide release on 3D and in IMAX on Nov. 18, 2016, followed by the sequels on Nov. 16, 2018 and Nov. 20, 2020.
