'Fantastic Four 2' news, cast, spoilers: Tommy Wiseau presenting himself to direct sequel?
To say Fox's reboot of "Fantastic Four" was a failure would be an understatement. Many things held the movie back from being a success. From bad scripting to real-life behind-the-camera tension between the cast and its directors, it seemed to be a setup time bomb, which did explode. The flood of negative reviews and poor gross earnings showed that whatever happened behind the scenes translated into the screen.
However, despite being greatly unsuccessful, Fox announced that it will stand by the franchise and push through with the sequel in 2017. One of the changes happening would surely be the director, as Josh Trank's rocky relationship with the cast and the studio obviously guarantees that he will no longer be returning. According to Screen Rant, one of the people presenting himself for the vacant position is Tommy Wiseau.
For those who are unfamiliar with Wiseau, he is the director, writer, and the star of "The Room." The 2003 cult film is a story focused on the love triangle between a banker (Wiseau), his fiancée (Juliette Danielle), and best friend (Greg Sestero). Simultaneously, the film spends a lot of its time shifting to unrelated and unresolved subplots involving the people close to the main characters. It has been said that The Room is one of the worst films ever made; however, it still gained a following for its unorthodox storytelling.

Wiseau admitted to have watched Fantastic Four and said he fairly enjoyed the film. However, he also expressed that he would have had enjoyed it better if he directed it himself. He shares, "You know, I told you I saw this Fantastic Four… it just… I'm not being critical — let me put it this way: I like it, I did enjoy it number one. Number two, it's too bad they didn't call me, that's all I want to say and I rest my case. (laughs) That's all I can tell you. (laughs) Good response in Europe though, that's my understanding, but it's too bad they didn't call me, that's my point. Maybe if there's a sequel, you know. You know, maybe your article gets me that job, who knows what will happen. You know what, I tell you what — I'm very open, I'll give you [the writer of the Milwaukee article] my commission fee."
Although it's admirable that Wiseau wants to direct the sequel, it will be unlikely that Fox would take that risk as the studios would want to make sure that they produce a bankable film this time around. However, many fans are already refusing as early as now to give the movie one more shot so the franchise's fate in 2017 is still unknown.
