'Fifty Shades Darker' Update: Filming Begins as Robinne Lee and Fay Masterson Join Cast
After months of settling in for production, "Fifty Shades Darker" has officially started filming, and along with the news is the recent confirmation that Robinne Lee and Fay Masterson have been tapped to join the cast.
In a post on Instagram on Tuesday, best-selling author E.L. James confirmed the first day of filming. The photo showed a clapping board marking the beginning of a long and effortful production for the sequel of "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Despite the conflict that pushed Sam Taylor-Johnson out of the picture, it seems all is well at the moment, with James Foley, director of "House of Cards," in for the movie. Taylor-Johnson and James reportedly clashed while making the first film and the media took notice of the two's lack of chemistry.
While Taylor-Johnson initially talked about the sequel, she has made it clear that she won't be directing the next two sequels. It has also been confirmed that aside from the second film, Foley will also be working on "Fifty Shades Freed" as it has been reported earlier that both sequels will be filmed simultaneously.
Meanwhile, Variety reports that Lee, who has recurred on "Being Mary Jane" and has appeared in movies such as "Hitch" and "Seven Pounds," will be playing the role of an executive in Christian Grey's (Jamie Dornan) giant company. It has yet to be revealed how her role will affect Grey and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), but it is expected that Lee's addition will bring in more thrill to the hit movie.
Masterson, whose role is still a big mystery, is currently a recurring character in "The Last Ship" and started acting as a teen. Aside from having appeared in over 25 films and more than 30 TV shows, she is also a voice and video game actress.
It is unclear if Masterson and Lee are already joining the first few days of filming, but it has been confirmed that both Dornan and Johnson have arrived in Canada to film their own scenes.
The sequel will feature Anastasia's plight with the exes of Christian and how the two will deal with the rough edges of their relationship. Some fans predict that part 2 of the franchise will finally see the two completely undressed, while some think it won't happen until the third movie.
"Fifty Shades Darker" is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 10, 2017.
