Galaxy A8 2018 Series Specs News: Samsung Announces Smartphone Update With 'Infinity Display' and Dual-Lens Front Camera
Before the year ends, Samsung announced an update to the Galaxy A8 series that adds its Infinity Display feature and a dual-lens camera setup to the mid-range smartphones.
This week, Samsung confirmed that an update to the Galaxy A8 series was due to release in early January 2018.
One of the most notable improvements applied to the smartphone series was the adaptation of the Infinity Display. This screen-focused feature was first announced along with the Galaxy S8 earlier this year.
With the Infinity Display, a device sports "an immersive 18.5:9 display ratio" that provides a larger viewing space on the screen. With the addition of this feature to the Galaxy A8 series, Samsung also had to drop the physical home button that was found in the front, just like in Galaxy S8 and Note 8 series.
In Samsung's official announcement, the company said: "The large screen is supported with ergonomic curved glass on the back and front. Its sleek glass and metal frame, smooth curves and comfortable grip make it even easier to watch or interact with content on your phone."
The 2018 version of Galaxy A8 will sport a 5.6-inch Full High-Definition+ screen with 1,080 x 2,220 resolution. The 2018 Galaxy A8+, on the other hand, will have a slightly bigger 6-inch display.
The 2018 Galaxy A8 and A8+ have almost the same specs except for their displays and batteries. The smaller model has a 3,000-milliampere hour battery while the bigger variant has a 3,500 mAh component.
Both 2018 Galaxy A8 models will sport a dual front camera that combines 16- and 8-megapixel lenses with f/1.9 aperture. For the main sensor at the rear, the smartphones will have another 16 MP lens with f/1.7 aperture.
Both models will also have a standard 4 GB random access memory. However, Samsung will offer a 6 GB RAM variant on the A8+. An option of 32 GB or 64 GB storage space applies to both smartphones.
Samsung did not specifically identify the device's octa-core CPU but promised that it was composed of a dual 2.2-gigahertz chip and a 1.6 GHz hexacore system.
