'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Cast News: Key Character to Re-Appear in New Season; Stars Talk Show's Impending Conclusion
An important "Game of Thrones" character who was last seen in season 3 is returning to the popular HBO fantasy drama series in its upcoming sixth season.
Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye), a Red Priest of the Lord of Light and a celebrated warrior, was last seen wandering around with the Brotherhood Without Banners in season 3. In his last appearance in "Game of Thrones," he and his friend Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer) handed Gendry (Joe Dempsie) over to Melisandre (Carice van Houten) in exchange for gold, infuriating Arya (Maisie Williams).
Though Thoros has not been seen in "Game of Thrones" since, he has been alluded to a couple of times. Arya included him in her "death list" in season 4 and Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) quipped that a Red Priestess he spotted in Volantis in season 5 is better looking than Thoros.
The news that Thoros will re-appear in the new season of "Thrones" comes from the website of Kaye's agency, which said that the actor is currently busy with television roles, including one in the hotly anticipated sixth season of "Game of Thrones."
Meanwhile, with season 6 just days away from airing its first hour, fans have begun to feel that the final act of the award-winning fantasy epic is almost at hand.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, "Thrones" actor John Bradley, who plays Samwell Tarly, said that the show's sixth season is a year of "redemption." "You get the sense that stories are coming to a conclusion," he said, adding that "loose ends [will be] tied up" in season 6.
Williams echoed Bradley's sentiment, telling THR, "We're building up to a massive downhill sprint."
"That's what it feels like," she explained. "We're getting more riled up. At the end of this [season], people will obviously be waiting for the next season of the series, but it will feel like the end is in sight."
"Definitely, yeah," actor Michael McElhatton, who plays Roose Bolton, answered when asked if he feels that "Game of Thrones" is nearing its end.
According to the actor, the show's writers move "incredibly fast" with their storytelling. "They can cut swathes of people, just killing people off," he said. "Suddenly, a person's gone, and that journey's over, and that journey's over…"
"Game of Thrones" returns to HBO on Sunday, April 24, at 9 p.m. ET.
