'Game of Thrones' season 6 news, cast, spoilers: Birgon Pilou Asbaek cast as Euron Greyjoy
Despite the many casualties in the last season of "Game of Thrones," it doesn't seem like the cast would be getting any smaller, as the addition of new characters is definitely happening in season 6 of the HBO award-winning series.
The latest actor to join the show is Birgon Pilou Asbaek. According to Express UK, the Danish actor will be playing the role of the eye patch-wearing pirate Euron Greyjoy. Euron is described to be unpredictable, cunning, shrewd, and ruthless. With that said, he takes joy in waging psychological warfare with anyone around him, which makes him hated even by his own siblings. He is also a skilled warrior and manipulator, qualities that he applies in being captain of Silence, a ship full of muted crew whose tongues Euron ripped out.
Asbaek's most notable roles include spin doctor Kasper Juul in "Borgen," a Scandinavian political thriller, as well as roles in "The Borgias" and Danish drama "1864."
Euron is reportedly going to be a big part of this season as he intends to take over the abandoned position of Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide), father of Yara, and Theon Greyjoy. He will be taking part in a challenge called Kingsmoot, in which he will be officially crowned as leader of the Ironborns. Some of the scenes for Kingsmoot have apparently been shot already. Once declared leader, he is keen in marrying Yara (Gemma Whelan). Following this plotline would also mean the return of Whelan who plays Yara, who was among the photographed cast members in Northern Ireland a few months back.
Moreover, Euron's plans also include sending Victarion, his brother, to Meereen to try and capture Daenerys Targaryen's (Emilia Clarke) interest, which of course would no longer work as Daenerys was seen flying off to an unknown land in the finale.
Fans eagerly await more excitement that season 6 will bring, as Game of Thrones returns in 2016.
